Cock rings are one of the simplest, and least expensive sex toys available. They give you a harder, and longer-lasting erection by stopping the blood from flowing back down the penis. Some also feature clitoral stimulators in the form of rubbery nodules, and some even vibrate so benefit both parties during use.

Although cock rings are a simple concept they come in a surprisingly wide range of styles and designs. So much so, that with such a huge range to choose from it can be difficult to decide what type of ring to buy; particularly if you have never used a cock ring before. For beginners, at Sex Toys NZ we recommend that you start with a simple silicone cock ring, and go on to purchase something a little more elaborate when you’ve got the hang of it. We also recommend that you experiment with the cock ring by yourself before using it in the bedroom. Most manufacturers stipulate that cock rings should not be worn for periods longer than twenty to thirty minutes to eliminate the risk of causing damage to your penis.

So, where to start? Am adjustable, single-strap cock ring can be worn behind the scrotum, or fastened over the top of the penis. Because they are adjustable they are very easy to put on, and, perhaps more importantly for the first-time user, are very easy to remove if you start to experience sensations that are too intense.

As you become more confident you may wish to try a solid single cock ring. Apply the ring when your penis is soft by gently tucking both your penis, and testicles, through the ring. It can be helpful to use a lubricant when using this type of cock ring as it helps significantly with its removal from an erect penis.

A vibrating cock ring has the added benefit of providing extra stimulation to your partner’s clitoris. They can be worn either behind, or in front of the scrotum. In order to pleasure your partner simply make sure that the vibrator incorporated into the cock ring is positioned correctly; on top of your penis for face to face positions, and at the bottom for rear entry positions. Cock rings can also be used during masturbation by wearing the ring underneath your scrotum to provide additional stimulation, or you could wear one on your finger when pleasuring your partner by hand.

A testicle spreader is designed for use by slightly more adventurous men. You attach it by placing the longer strap of the cock ring securely behind the scrotum and snapping it shut on top of the penis. This should form a solid ring with the short straps of the spreader hanging behind the scrotum and holding one testicle.

During use, cock rings should feel firm, but not so tight that they cause any discomfort. Adding a small amount of lubricant will make the positioning and removal of the cock ring easier, and will make it more comfortable during use.
